Careers In Balance

I have provided career counseling since January 2001. My clients are often sabotaged in their search for satisfying work. Simply determining what type of work would make them happy isn't enough for them to make permanent changes.

Many career counseling approaches focus on helping clients identify their "ideal" career and implement a job search; I take it a step further. Using a therapeutic approach I work with clients to determine the obstacles that keep them paralyzed, dissatisfied, and frustrated when it comes to work.

Would you like to:

Have a positive view of work and/or money

Examples of negative beliefs that may alter your view of work....
- having a "profession" means being an adult, which means boredom, confinement, and responsibility
- if I make more money than my parents I will be rejected by them; I'll lose touch with the "real" world if I earn more money than I need

Feel empowered in your work environment

Clients often internalize work issues so they feel powerless to make changes, set boundaries, ask for what they need, etc.

Develop a positive perspective about yourself and what you have to offer

Because of a poor fit between the person and the job clients become bored, stuck, unable to identify their strengths.

Let go of limiting beliefs so you can move forward

I must "know" what I want to do; I have to make the "right" choice; most other people know what they want to do; it's too late to do what I'd like to do; what I want to do won't pay the bills

Develop a career plan

Once we've identified the stumbling block, clients are able to generate ideas and a plan toward more satisfying work
